Yes, I spoil my dogs. No, I don’t feel a bit of remorse for doing so.
I had been searching for a paw balm that I could use on their weather-cracked paw pads.  I really needed to find something that wouldn’t bother them if they licked it off, but truly wanted something light so that they wouldn’t feel compelled to lick it off in the first place.  And that’s when I discovered Kissable Paws Balm from Collie Creek Candles, www.colliecreekcandles.com. When her business launched in January 2022,  Liz Kranz, a fellow collie lover, hoped to expand beyond her candles into the realm of personal care products for humans and their canine companions.  Kissable Paws Balm is her first offering in that category and I’m a fan already!

Unlike traditional paw balms you’ll find on the market, this one was tested on humans and is safe for both you and your dogs.  It is texturally light, without any fragrance at all (important for me with all of my allergies!), and made with simple ingredients.  Containing jojoba oil, chamomile, lavender, rose petals, three butters (kokum, shea, and mango), and vitamin E, this balm went onto my chapped hands and cracked heels as easily as it was applied to my dogs’ foot pads.  We had fun with this, making it an evening ritual where I would apply the balm to my own feet as I did the dogs.  They were definitely interested in sniffing the balm, but made no attempt to lick it off their feet or mine.

This was huge as my daughter’s smooth collie loves to lick things off and I wanted something I could use on his feet too.  All three dogs trotted around immediately after the application of the paw balm, leaving no marks on the hardwood floors, carpet, or rugs.  While this balm doesn’t provide any additional traction on hard surfaces, it also isn’t slick or slimy, so it didn’t impede their traction either, something I’d found happened with other paw balms.  After just a couple of days use, my own cracked heels and chapped hands were visibly improved and the same could be said for the cracked collie foot pads.  With the colder weather we are experiencing here in California, I am grateful for the paw balm for myself and my canine companions.

And while I won’t actually be kissing collie feet anytime soon (I only kiss puppy feet, I’m not completely crazy!), they are softer to the touch and very much enjoying the extra foot pampering. I can confirm that my softer heels and hands are a hit at home as well!
