Out of the Box: The Collie Behind the Scent

Our very first Collie was a large, loving Sable Merle girl who stole our hearts before we ever met her.

We met her breeders at a dog show, where they had a photograph of their litter. One puppy in particular caught our eye. She had been named after a famous television Collie, and we fell for her at first glance.

We followed the breeders home to meet her and, more importantly, to see if she liked us, too.

When we arrived, she was already out of the whelping box and running around the house instead of staying where she was supposed to be.

From that day forward, we joked that she was one of a kind. Truly original. Or simply “out of the box.”

And she certainly lived up to the name.

With her striking good looks, reminiscent of that famous television Collie, she was impossible to miss. Wherever we took her, she naturally became the center of attention.

But it wasn't just her beautiful appearance that made her special. She had a way of making everyone feel welcome.

Children adored her. Adults did, too. She happily accepted kibble straight from a friend's toddler's hand, and she once made an elderly man's entire day simply by letting him pet a dog that reminded him of the Collies he had known as a child.

She was easygoing, laid-back, and wonderfully carefree. Our “out of the box” Collie was easy to please—and even easier to love.
